![]() How can I refer a student to the Writing Center and where should I send the student? Print and complete a referral form for the student, who should bring the form to the Center within five days of receipt of the referral. Please note that we will only send you progress reports by email if you select that option on the form. Students can bring the referral to either location at the ISU Library, Main Floor, South or to Root Hall A-274. Do students need to have a referral to visit the Center? No. Students may walk in during Writing Center hours on a first-come basis or schedule an appointment. How can I arrange a class visit from the Writing Center staff and when should I do so? Who will present the material and how much class time will it take? To arrange a class visit, please complete a request form and send it as an attachment to the Writing Center Secretary who will confirm the visit for you and arrange for a presentation. We suggest offering Writing Center services as early in the semester as possible, so students can get a head start on their writing or research skills. Please allow a week’s advance notice whenever possible. A qualified Writing Center consultant or the Writing Center Coordinator will present the material and it should take around 15 minutes to cover our services and to answer any questions. Can I mention the Writing Center on my syllabus? Please do! We can also supply you with Writing Center brochures, if you would like to hand them out as well. Please contact the Writing Center Coordinator if you need supplies. Can I send sample papers or assignment guidelines to the Writing Center? We are always glad to have these kinds of materials on hand because it helps us understand what you expect from your classes. You can send them as attachments by email to the Writing Center Secretary. Are there other services available for instructors through the Writing Center? Yes. We have over 250 writing handouts available for printing and classroom use at the Online Writing Center (OWL). |
