Math Placement Test Information

As of October 15, 2009, the COMPASS math placement test has been replaced with Maple TA. New students who require math placement testing will be asked to take Maple TA during the spring and summer prior to their enrollment at ISU. Students who do not take Maple prior to attending Orientation will be given the test during their Orientation session. Here is the advising information for math placement testing:

- Continuing students who need to take math placement testing should be directed to the University Testing Website. They should click on "placement testing," then follow instructions for taking the math placement test. They will be directed to a practice test that they can take as often as they like to prepare for Maple TA.

- Typically, students may take the actual Maple TA placement test only once. However, in exceptional circumstances when students believe that the test--for verifiable reasons--did not reflect their actual ability, they may be allowed a second attempt at Maple TA.

- If students have difficulty navigating the website or taking the test, they should call the University Testing Office at ext. 7666 for assistance.

- Maple TA test scores will appear in Banner on SOATEST and therefore will appear in a students DARS. The following chart links test scores with course placement.Plezse note that as of fall 2012,Math 015 and Math 035 are the new remedial Math courses. It should be noted that Math 035 [a combination of what used to be Math 099/111 and part of Math 011] does
**not**satisfy the General Education Mathematics requirement. Math 111 no longer exists. Here is the placement chart:

Score | Course |

0-6 | Math 015 |

7-11 | Math 102 or Math 035 (Previously Math 111) |

12-20 | Math 112 or Math 115 |

21-30 | Math 122 or Math 131 |

Here is the memo announcing the changes that I summarize above.
